A meeting of the Council of Rectors of Federal Universities took place at Southern Federal University on October 16th.

The rectors spoke about their development programs, network education, and current priorities. The increase of funding of the academic mobility programs was among the proposals.

Also of note was the election of KFU as the coordinator of the educational and research activities of federal universities.

The second part of the meeting was dedicated to the celebration of the centenary of the Southern Federal University. Rector of KFU Ilshat Gafurov in his speech mentioned that SouthFU was a pioneer among federal universities and helped others with their first steps (Southern Federal was established in 2006, the second among federal universities). He also presented Academician Vladimir Minkin (Research Consultant of SouthFU) the insignia of an Emeritus Doctor of KFU.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Russia Aleksandr Klimov said that federal universities are beacons for other universities in their work.
