The delegation of Kazan Federal University at the head of Ilshat Gafurov, Rector of KFU, was in Japan from 15 till 18th February by the invitation of Japanese colleagues to participate in the International symposium "New vision of universities in terms of globalization: pushing up the partnerships between Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus and Japan".  

There is no doubt that the agenda of the Symposium is quite significant for our scientists and attract their interest. The development of strategic partnership and network interaction between Kazan Federal and the leading universities and scientific centers of USA, Europe and Asia and Middle East is one of the priority goals of KFU.

"With consolidation of educational and scientific potential we will be able to deal with global challenges, promote the establishment of common international scientific and educational space and contribute to the innovational development of our countries and the increase of competitiveness and human capital", said Ilshat Gafurov during his speech in the University of Tsukuba.

Conclusion of the Agreement between Kazan Federal University and the University of Tsukuba 16th of February 2015 became the other important outcome of the visit besides the participation in Symposium. The agreement describes the details of academic mobility and determines the launch of exchange programs between bachelor, master and PhD students and professors of the partner universities.

We would like to remind you that 7000 kilometers distance between two universities doesn't restrict the possibilities of cooperation of two universities; the following fields for prospect joint studies between two universities can be mentioned: physics, chemistry, medicine, physical education and oriental studies.

There is a number of scientific and educational centers of Japan among partners of Kazan Federal University besides university of Tsukuba. The oldest partner of KFU in Japan is the University of Kanazawa (Agreement of partnership in education, science and culture was signed in 1998).

RIKEN, Japan's largest comprehensive research institution which organize researches in wide scientific scale: chemistry, physics, biology, medicine, engineering, and computer science, is the other strategic partner of Kazan Federal University.  It is worth mentioning that Professor Ryōji Noyori, Nobelist in Chemistry is Honorable doctor of Kazan Federal University and the member of International academic counsel of KFU.   

For information. There is a complex of joint scientific researches of Kazan Federal University and RIKEN in the following directions:

Physics

Training of the high level specialists within the program of joint PhD was launched in August, 2008. The first PhD degree in terms of the program was issued to Alexander Badrutdinov in 2011.  

Chemistry

The joint laboratory KFU- RIKEN in Biochemistry (Biofunctional chemistry OpenLab) was created in June, 2014.

The directors of the laboratory are Professor Katsunori Tanaka (deputy senior research assistant of biofunctional  synthetical chemistry laboratory, RIKEN) and Almira Kurbangalieva (Alexander Butlerov Institute of Chemistry).

The research area of the Laboratory is the synthesis and approvement of new glycans for high selective diagnostics of organs and swellings of living organisms therapy.

According to the joint laboratory creation agreement, KFU gives the platform to the laboratory  and provides with professional staff and contemporary technical support.

RIKEN participates in the management of the Laboratory and the researches on selective identifying swellings innovative glucoconjugate development.

Biomedicine

The Memorandum of Intent regulates partnership between Kazan Federal University, RIKEN and Clinical oncological dispensary of the Republic of Tatarstan. It was signed October, 27 2014.

Document regulates the extent of joint scientific researches  in medicine and genomics, determination of common interest fields, promotion of joint scientific projects realization, exchange programs for scientists, technical specialists, and students, and organization of joint scientific events.  

The delegation of Kazan  Federal University visited the Institute of physics and chemictry researches in Japan (RIKEN) 17th of February. There were the following Japanese participants in that meeting: Professor R.Noyori, President of RIKEN, Professor K.Tamao, Director of the cluster of global researches, Professor Hayashizaki, Professor K.Kono, Professor K.Tanaka.

In his speech Ilshat Gafurov presented the results of the development of Kazan Federal University in terms of the "5:100" and presented his gratitude to Professor Ryōji Noyori for active participation in joint projects.  While Ryōji Noyori mentioned the importance of scientific researches organized in joint laboratories of KFU and RIKEN and highly evaluated success of KFU in International scientific level.  

Professor Yoshihide Hayashizaki made the presentation about new fields of partnership with Kazan Federal University. To sum up, we would like to mention that Rector of Kazan Federal University and Presinedt of RIKEN stated the common goal of the launch of the RIKEN center in Kazan with effective woirk on administrative and scientific issues.
