The Division of Romance and Germanic Philology was organized on the basis of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Tatar State Teachers’ Training University, that has got a rich 70-year old history, and the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology of Kazan State University that was founded in 1997. The priority direction of the division is the training of skilled personnel in the sphere of foreign languages by means of contemporary educational technologies. Innovative and educational programmes as well as the projects pertaining to the humanities are realized by the personnel of the faculty. All these programmes and projects are socially important in the conditions of polyethnic and polycultural environment. The students of the faculty are from different regions of the Russian Federation and foreign countries.
The Division of Romance and Germanic Philology is an artistic laboratory where the progressive mental style and the rational approach of the new generation of specialists are formed. The aim of the teaching staff is to reform the society providing it with a stable and dynamic development. The realization of the programme which is devoted to the work with talented children and youth is one of the most important orientations of the faculty. Among the activities, that are held within this programme, there are different Olympiads, and contests for pupils and students, scientific conferences, linguistic tournaments and etc.
There are four foreign languages that are taught at the division: English, French, German, and Spanish.
Our scientists organize their research work in such spheres as the comparative and linguocultural study of various languages; functional study of the languages of the world and their usage in different social spheres; lexicographic, sociolinguistic investigations; the study of the problem of translation practice and theory; scientific bases and the development of the foreign languages teaching methods; the study and adoption of the innovations of foreign experience in language teaching; the realization of the ethnocultural component in the contents of the foreign education; polycultural sensitivity; the research of the social perspective of Tatarstan peoples’ ethnolinguistic behaviour.
We realize various contracts with large foreign Universities and implement joint scientific and educational projects. The programme of double diploma was successfully carried out together with the University “Paris 3. New Sorbonne”. Those students, who study French as their first foreign language, have got the opportunity to get the diploma of Sorbonne University.
The unique Cambridge University examination centre is functioning on the basis of the division (Cambridge ESOL RU057). Different projects of international certification are carried out there.
