The Chair of Arts is located in the historical centre of Kazan with the view on the fountains of the Bulak and the Kazan Kremlin. The teaching process in conducted in the new building, which is equipped with concert and choreography halls, painting workshops, computer classes, auditoriums for lectures and seminars, fundamental library with an access to the electronic information sources, phonetic and media library. The department has a studio for voice-recording and multimedia technologies, art gallery, and musical hall. The students are able to improve their professionalism at educational centres, creative teams, exhibition halls and museums of the republic.
The range of educational, scientific and creative work at the Arts Chair is very wide. There is its students’ self-management, creativity laboratories, music-video hall, computer technologies centre, design-clothing studio “Tatar-style”, training music-pedagogical theatre, department’s newspaper “ARTiFACT”, and regular musical-educational concerts. The department is famous for its creative groups, among them are: folk instruments orchestra, violinists’ ensemble, trio “Bravo”, “Al Zeynebem”, duet “Nadezhda”, folk ensembles “Salam” and “Yeshler”, vocal ensemble “Kazan kizlari”, Kazan trio of baritones etc. The students realize their creative abilities in university-held festive and competitions, such as: “Milli khazine”, “Students’ spring”, Comedy and Jokes Club, “Cinemania”, “Dancing fiesta” etc.
At the moment at the department there are nearly 900 students from all over the Russia, CIS and foreign countries: China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, Mari-El, Chuvashia, Udmurtia, Yamal-Nenets autonomous area, and Moscow, Saratov, Astrakhan’, Orenburg, Perm’, Omsk districts, Altay krai etc. For the nonresident students there rooms in dorm and Universiade Village are provided. To the low-income-family, orphan and disabled students are given the social scholarship. During their holidays the students are allowed to rest in educational-wellness centre “Yalchik”, also to work as tutors, musical managers, choreographers, artists, or designers in Krasnodar krai, Anapa, or Tatarstan camps.
The students who showed the distinguished results in research and creative works are able to continue their education at the Master’s or Postgraduate course.
The pedagogical activity at the department is conducted by the professors, docents, PhDs, and candidates of science, national artists, designers, artists, honored workers of Art of Tatarstan Republic and Russian Federation, specialists at the area of design and artistic-computer technology. The scientific weight of the department is supported by large-scale researches in area of Arts studies, Music studies, and Art education. Special attention is paid to the research and popularization of the artistic trace of the Tatar and the Volga region people.
