The department successfully develops two scientific areas:

1. text as an object of linguistic and literary research;

2. modern technologies for teaching a foreign language at school and university.

Since 2006, students of the German department have been able to study under the additional educational program "Translator in the field of professional communication."

The main task of the department at the moment is to train highly qualified specialists for various types of general education institutions: secondary schools, schools with in-depth study of foreign languages, lycées and gymnasiums. This is possible only if the educational process is constantly improved. The main directions in the work of the chair should be highlighted:

• Updating of working programs, preparation of educational and methodological complexes for the educational disciplines of the chair.
• Creating an additional base for future professional activities of graduates, both in the pedagogical and non-pedagogical fields.
• Qualitative improvement of research work of students.
• Development of extracurricular forms of work.
• Communication with public education bodies.
• Active work with teachers of comprehensive education institutions
• Strengthening ties with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Cultural Center named after Goethe.

• "Philological support of document flow"
• "Project Method in the Lessons of German"
• "Modern Literature of Germany"
• "Text as an object of linguistic and literary analysis"

• German-language literature in the context of a paradigm shift - from the Art Nouveau era to the present day (XX-XXI centuries)
• Intertextuality as the dominant principle of poetics of Uwe Johnson's novel "Days of the Year"
• The work of Barbara Frischmouth: the problem of poetics
