The history of the department dates back to 1962 when the Department of Foreign Languages was opened at the Faculty of Philology on the basis of which later, in 1965, the Faculty of Foreign Languages was opened.

Areas of training:

Linguistics, training programme "Translation and Translation Studies" (English, German; English, Chinese)

Pedagogical education (with two training programmes), "English, German", "German, English"

The Department of Foreign Languages implements an additional educational program "Translator in the field of professional communication"

At the department the following chairs are supervised:

• Chair of English Philology and Intercultural Communication
• Chair of German Philology

Teachers and students successfully participate in international competitions, receive grants for scientific and educational internships at leading foreign universities.
