The Regional Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Education (RAO) in the Volga Federal District was established on the basis of the Kazan Federal University. On May 19, 2016, at the plenary meeting of the II International Forum on Teacher Education held at KFU, the Vice-President of the RAO Vladimir Laptev presented the relevant documents to the KFU rector Ilshat Gafurov. This event was the logical result of the work of scientists of the Institute of Psychology and Education of KFU and RW in the framework of the joint research laboratory on the problem “Organizational, informative and technological renewal of the educational process in a modern Russian university” created in 2014 due to the increased interest of the scientific and pedagogical community to modernization processes in KFU. The specifics of the latter in March 2014, Corresponding Member of the RAO for the Department of Vocational Education, Rector of KFU Ilshat Gafurov reported to the Presidium of the RAO.

The results of the joint work showed the importance of scientific interaction with RW: KFU received an objective assessment of the changes taking place and strengthened their qualitative component. In turn, the Russian Academy of Education, referring to the study of educational activities in KFU, had the opportunity to create on the basis of one of the country's largest universities a fairly large experimental platform for developing and implementing new ideas and technologies.

In total, nine regional research centers of the Russian Academy of Education will be created in the country - one for each federal district, not including the Central, where the Academy itself is directly based.

The Kazan Center coordinates the training of teachers and the modernization of education systems not only in the Volga Federal District, but also in the other eight centers of the RAO.

The organization of large-scale interdisciplinary research by the Russian Academy of Education in cooperation with the leading educational and scientific centers of the country will allow reaching a new modern level of research.
