Summer School 'Green Technologies'

Summer School "Green Technologies" for young scientists organized by Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, the Fulbright Program in Russia with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Russia opened on June, 20. The official opening was attended by Director of the Fulbright Program in Russia, Edward Roslof, KFU Vice-rector for International Relations Linar Latypov, KFU Vice-rector for Research Danis Nurgaliyev.

Linar Latypov greeted the participants: "We are pleased that the school takes part in Kazan Federal University, it is important and symbolic for the university. Here you can exchange views and identify points for cooperation". Danis Nurgaliyev gave a presentation of the federal university, its points of growth, focusing on new promising directions of research and "green technologies".

Edward Roslof said that both the Fulbright Program in Russia and Kazan University took much preparatory work for this event. In addition, the support of the School was provided by the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan. "The topic of the school is very important. Here there are experts from all over Russia who can get to know each other and get a long-term contacts. I hope that through this thanks to th school we can change the life of your region and around the world for the better, "said Edward Roslof.

According to Natalia Smirnova, Deputy Director of the Fulbright Program in Russia, participants of the school underwent a rigorous competition. 25 young scientists from Kazan, Moscow, Yaroslavl, Krasnoyarsk, Yakutsk, Arkhangelsk, Astrakhan and other cities were se­lected from 95 applicants. Kazan Federal University is represented by 4 participants.

Today everyone could attend public lectures by Vincent Duffy (Purdue University, USA) - "Modern business strategies: ecology, innovations and society"; by Yuri Gogolev (Kazan Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics KSC RAS) - "Biopolitics. Signal Control of Pathogens." Kazan university will hold workshops and lectures, practical classes, laboratory workshops, field visits and discussions with Russian experts and visiting scholars from the United States in the field of "green technology" until June, 30. The key topics of the school are assessment of the environment with the use of living organisms, new approaches to health improvements, recycling of organic wastes to produce useful products and biogas; regulation of growth and protection of plants and others. The participants of the Summer School will be introduced to examples of the use of "green technologies" in different industries. Upon graduation all participants will receive an official certificate.
