Doctor Adizes: 'Do your best'

Ichak Kalderon Adizes, one of the leading world experts on improving the performance of business and government delivered a lecture to the university’s administration, deans of faculties, directors of institutes and students on June, 18.

Dr. Adizes is an author of many books on theory of management. Over the past 35 years, he has worked with many commercial organizations in the world. He also worked as a political consultant at the governments of Israel, Sweden, Greece, Brazil, Ghana, Iceland, and Mexico. The methodology of Adizes is applied throughout the world in the companies like «Coca-Cola», «Bank of America», «Volvo», «Visa Group».

Introducing the guest, Rector Ilshat Gafurov emphasized that Dr. Ichak Adizes visited Kazan within the cooperation with Kazan Federal University. The guest in an hour-lecture spoke about his theory of effective management of changes. The basis for successful management, according to him, is mutual respect and trust of the people to each other - both at the family level and at the level of a company or of the whole state. These qualities can ensure efficient operation of team members who have different qualities and skills.

Dr. Adizes explained the complex notions like management, effective management, success through the simple categories. Management in his interpretation is choice of decision and its realization, effective management is democracy in taking the decision and dictatorship in its realization. The art of management, according to the speaker, is the skill to be able to take into account or disregard someone else's opinion on the right time. Success also depends on whether the team members are able to work together.

The guest urged not to fear mistakes, to enjoy and adapt to changes. After all the changes mean life: when the changes end, the life stops. Such an unusual lecture and philosophic nature of many statements have caused great excitement: the listeners applauded Dr. Adizes and asked him many questions. Students asked about the difference between the Russian management from the European. They heard in the response that the Russian management is based on fear: subordinates fear to speak to offer their ideas to administration. Dr. Adizes proposed to create a safe environment where people would sit in a circle with the leader and could speak as the solution to the problem.

Dr. Adizes gave a very philosophic answer to another interesting question: "How to set up the right goal?" "Ask yourself: what gives you energy, what am I doing best of all. In answering these questions, you will determine the priorities".
