 Invites Applications for the International Conference:

Islam in Europe: Adaptation and Integration of Muslim Communities


The Conference is scheduled to take place in Kazan (The Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation) on 29 -31 October, 2014


 Applications for individual presentations and pre-organized panels are invited on the following topics:

1) History of the  Muslim communities in Europe
            - Islam in the Balkans and issues of sustainable development of multi-religious                                          communities.
            - Spiritual heritage of  Tatar Muslims in Poland, Lithuania and Belarus
            -  Tatar Muslims in Finland and their role in building interreligious relations in the country
            - The phenomenon of Tatar Islam in the Crimea within the context of historical and                                 cultural development of the region.
            - Muslims of Volga and Ural regions in search of an ethno-religious identity

2) Globalization and mass migration of Muslims to European countries
            - Various states of Muslim emigration to European countries
            - Changes in the number and ethnic composition of Muslim population in                           European states
            - Islamic finances  in the European Economic Area
            - Immigrants from the CIS countries in Russia

            - Muslim minorities and the issues of applying Islamic legal norms in non-Muslim countries

            - Muslim communities, networks and movements in non-Islamic European countries

 


3)  Converts to Islam in Europe and Russia
            -  Conversion  to Islam among Europeans in the Middle Ages and Modern Times
            - The European Left and their attitudes to Islam and Muslims
            - Islam as a Religion of the European "Right"
            - Famous European Converts ot Islam.
            - Converst to Islam in the Russian Federation  Trends and  Tendencies.

4) Civilizational Frontier
            - Islam in Cyberspace
            - Discussions of  “Traditional Islam” in  Regional Contexts
            - Problem of Islamophobia in the New Media  and Information Space
            - Islam and Christianity: Interaction and Confrontation  in the Borderlands.
            - Muslim Religious Education and the Study of Islam in a Secular Society.
            - Interaction of the State and Religious Institutions in the Postmodern Epoch.

 


Round Table:
            Sharia System of Governance: Historical Experiences and Contemporary Discourses.                             (Organized by Alexander Knysh)

 

Conference Languages: Russian and English.

 

Russian and foreign  scholars are invited to participate  to submit applications for individual presentations and pre-organized panels. Lecturers,  graduate students, employees of public and governmental organizations, businessmen, and  representatives of various professional communities  are welcome to  apply and participate in  the conference.

 

Please  prepare your applications  in accordance with the form provided below.

 

Deadlines: Applications  are accepted  until September 1, 2014. Confirmation of acceptance  will be sent on September 15, 2014.

 

The deadline for  submitting papers to panel chairs and discussants is October 15, 2014.

Traveling and accommodation are to be covered by  the participants unless special arrangemnts are  made with the  Organizing Committee.

The Organizing Committee  will review the submissions and notify the finalists by September 15, 2014.
