Werner Lehfeldt – Doctor Emiritus of Kazan University

On 19th of April at the Assembly hall of Kazan federal university took place the ceremonial reception of the Academic Council. As a result professor of Goettingen University, Werner Lehfeldt, was awarded the honorary title of the Honorary Doctor of Kazan University.

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Werner Lehfeldt is a world-recognized scientist, famous German slavicist. He is the author of 21 monographs, more than 130 articles, a dozen of reviews, interpreter/translator of a number of scientific works and co-editor of many scientific publications in German.

The area of his scientific interests is broad: from history of Slavic languages to political processes in the modern world – first of all on Balkans and in Russia. His first dissertational work was devoted to peculiarities of Arabic s­cript by Slavs-Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the XV–XVI centuries. In 1978 in Munich his book, devoted to multiple-aspect analysis of verbal forming in Russian and Ukrainian languages, was published.

His outstanding scientific achievements are highly appreciated by the world community. From 1996 Mr. Lehfeldt is a corresponding member of the Croatian Academy of Science. 2006 he became the Chairman of the philological and historical department of the Goettingen Academy of Science and the Vice-President of the Academy as well. 2010 professor Lehfeldt was awarded the title of the Honorary Doctor of the Vinogradov Institute of Russian language of the Russian Academy of Science.

The ceremony preceded the meeting of professor Lehfeldt with the Kazan university management: with the Vice-Rector for education Riyaz Minzaripov, Vice-Rector for international relations Linar Latypov and Director of the Institute of philology and arts Radif Zamaletdinov.

By tradition Riyaz Minzaripov told about life and scientific activities of the host, congratulated him with the award of the most desired prize of Kazan University. Professor Lehfeldt made important contribution to the learning of Russian language and culture at the Kazan University, history of interactions of Kazan university scientists with the international scientific society and the creation of conditions for the fruitful cooperation of Kazan university humanitarians and scientific and educational centers of Germany.

In his speech in reply Werner Lehfeldt thanked for the great honor and highlighted that the award is of great importance for him because from the first years of his scientific explorations historiography of Kazan University takes a significant place in his work.
