Future collaboration with Universities of Pennsylvania

This news was announced on September, 12 during the meeting with representatives of “American Councils for International Education”.

For information. Founded in 1974 as an association for area and language professionals, American Councils has focused its expertise on academic exchange, professional training, distance learning, curriculum and test development, delivery of technical assistance, research, evaluation, and institution building. A leader in international education, academic exchange, and overseas language immersion, American Councils creates opportunities that prepare individuals and institutions to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

Originally incorporated as the American Council of Teachers of Russian (ACTR), American Councils has worked to advance research, training, and materials development in the fields of Russian and English, as well as strengthen communication within and among the communities of scholars and educators in language, literature, and area studies of the United States and the former Soviet Union. In 1987, the ACTR Board of Directors created the American Council for Collaboration in Education and Language Study (ACCELS), which quickly became a leader in the design and administration of exchange and training programs funded by the U.S. government.  

The following programs act on the territory of Russia: Flex, EURECA, Algarysh, Open World, internship in US innovative and business sector, programs for studying Russian, Literature and Culture for American senior school students, students, postgraduate students and teachers.

Director of American Councils for International Education in Russia, Carter Johnson, Program Director,  Ann Domorad, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Linar Latypov, Vice-Rector for Innovations, Nail Kashapov, Director of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology, Andrey Kiyasov, Deputy Director for Education of the Institute of Physics, Dmitriy Tayurskiy, Deputy Director of the Institute of Administration and Territorial Development, Nailya Akhtyamova, participated in the meeting.

In the beginning of the meeting American representatives informed about their educational programs, but focused mainly on EURECA. The main goal of this program is to provide assistance to Russian national research universities in integration of academic programs with research and entrepreneurial activity.

Four priority directions in development of which both sides are interested were highlighted during the meeting. In this respect were mentioned IT, oil and gas technologies and socio-humanitarian area. It is planned to cooperate with PennState and Temple University and University of Maryland in this directions.
