The length of the Torch Relay in Bugulma made about 5000 m, which were covered by 31 torchbearers. The Torch Relay started on the square in front of a Sport Centre bearing the name “Fakel” (“Torch”), which is symbolic for this event. The Relay finished on Energetic stadium, where a town cup of the Universiade Flame was lit. Deputy Head of the RF Pension Fund Department in Tatarstan, Ms. Yelena Polyakova, Chairperson of the Executive Committee of Bugulminskiy municipal district, Ms. Tatyana Nikulina, Head of the Youth Affairs, Sport and Tourism Department of Bugulminskiy municipal district, Mr. Ruslan Garifullin, took part in this solemn event.
“The honourable right to light the town cup was conferred to the Head of Bugulminskiy municipal district, Mr. Ildus Kasymov, as well as to the last torchbearer, world champion in powerlifting, Ms. Anna Filimonova,” writes Interfax.
Today, on the 23rd of June, the Universiade Flame will arrive in Elabuga from Mendeleyevsk. It will be carried by 31 torchbearers, like in Bugulma. Those are sportsmen, sport veterans and town authorities. Each of them will have to run 160 to 280 metres, with the total relay length making 6600 m.
The Torch Relay will start on the square in front of KFU branch in Elabuga at 7PM, where the Flame will be lit. Then torchbearers will carry the Torch along the following route: Kazanskaya str. – Spasskaya str. – B. Pokrovskaya str. – Gassar str. – Kazanskaya str. – Neftyaniki avenue – Mir avenue – T. Gizzat str. The Relay will be finished on the Central stadium, where the town Flame Cup will be lit.
The festive occasion will be concluded with a concert program and disco devoted to the Youth Day.
The Universiade Torch visited 5 parts of the world, covered 160 thousand km. The following famous people were torchbearers: tennis player Dinara Safina, hockey player Alexey Morozov, volleyball player Yekaterina Gamova. In Kazan the Universiade Torch will also be carried by the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mr. Rustam Minnikhanov. Total number of torchbearers involved in the Relay will make 2013.
By the way, the Universiade Torch is made in the form of a tulip, its weight is 1,5 kg. To commemorate this event Elabuga will be presented with a gift Flame Relay torch.
