Students of the Laboratory of intelligent robotic systems participated at the VII Youth School on Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Engineering Creativity 'Roboschool+'

From November 19 to 24, 2018, Volgograd State Technical University (VSTU) hosts the VII all- Youth School on Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Engineering Creativity «Roboschool+». The first Vice-rector of VSTU, professor Alexander Navrotsky, representatives of the Volgograd region administration and a Head of the Laboratory of intelligent robotic systems (LIRS) professor of the Higher Institute of Information Technologies and Intelligent Systems (ITIS) of Kazan Federal University (KFU) Evgeni Magid.

The purpose of the Youth School is hands-on experience with advanced computer technologies, capture of modern aspects of programming and use of artificial intelligence systems, computer vision, machine learning and robotic systems in various fields. The school's topics include an overview of the latest achievements in the field of artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning and robotics, lines of their development, as well as the examples of their use in solving practical problems.

More than 300 people, mainly representing Volgograd and the Volgograd region, take part in various events of «Roboschool+». Participants of another town passed a multi-stage competitive selection for participation in the event: from a large number of applications, the advisory committee selected 43 representatives from 15 universities of 13 regions of the Russian Federation based on questionnaires and proposed projects. KFU is represented by the largest group of participants of another town. Out of 20 applications submitted by KFU 7 students of the LIRS were selected, as well as one master degree student of the Nikolai Lobachevsky Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics.

The school's program includes classes and hackathons on school topics, competitions in competitive programming, a project competition, and interesting open lectures by invited industry experts. An invited speaker professor Evgeni Magid held an open lecture on the topic «Mobile robotics».

At the end of the event the best works of participants presented at the project competition will be published in the school's proceedings.

Ilnaz Shayakhmetov, a first-year student of the «Intelligent robotics» master’s program at the Higher Institute of Information Technologies and Intelligent Systems (KFU), shared his impressions of participating in the «Roboshool+»:

«Volgograd made an impression of a comfortable city. I am very happy to participate there. We had a busy schedule that included useful lectures from leading experts and a lot of practice in master classes. In each event I learned from 40% to 90% of new information. There is a great working atmosphere and communication with interesting well-rounded guys».
