Foreign students who find themselves in isolation away from home are presented with new food packages

Today, almost every person has been affected by a coronavirus pandemic to varying degrees. Among those who fell into a difficult life situation were foreign students of the Elabuga Institute. Today they are on distance learning in the regime of strict self-isolation away from home and do not receive the support of their relatives.

“We do not divide our students into Russian and foreign citizens: we study together, hold promotions, celebrate national holidays, participate in the life of the city, and are proud of everyone’s success.

I am called by the worried parents of foreign students who would like to return their daughters and sons to their homeland, and the students themselves would like to survive difficult times near their relatives, but today it is really impossible. Borders are closed, air travel is prohibited, bank transfers are inhibited. The guys became hostages of the situation.

From time immemorial, Yelabuzhan was distinguished by cordiality, hospitality, a tendency to patronage and charity. These best qualities are inherent in the inhabitants of our city now, too, ”said Director of the Institute Elena Efimovna Merzon.

The administration and organizations of the Elabuga region, representatives of neighboring regions joined the action to support students in need, initiated by the university staff. The forces of the Education Department of the Mamadysh region this week delivered 3.5 tons of potatoes, 1.2 tons of beets and 300 kg of carrots. The Mamadysh District Consumer Society in the form of 205.5 kg of beef meat also helped foreign children. Also, 228 kg of beef was transferred by an individual entrepreneur Fayzelkhan Akhmetzyanov. In addition, 400 rolls of fresh bread were delivered by the Yelabuga Food Processing Plant LLC. Support was also provided by the Kama-Trucks TCF represented by Irina Steinberg.

Rustem Nuriev, head of the Yelabuga region’s executive committee, Anatoly Ivanov, head of the Mamadysh district, Razif Karimov, head of the Zainsky district, and Valery Chershintsev, head of the Mendelevsky district, also responded to the call for help.

The necessary assistance to students this week was also provided by the KER-Holding Management Company.

“I want to say a big thank you not only from myself, but also from other foreign students of the institute! This help is very necessary and important for us. We are glad that support is provided weekly. The attention and care on the part of the institute’s staff gives us peace of mind and confidence that everything will be fine in the future, ”said Gulnaz Teremkulova, a student of the Faculty of Philology and History.

The action to support students in a difficult life situation at the university has been going on for three weeks. During this time, about 30 partners of the institute acted as sponsors. Students of the Elabuga Institute praised the support and, in gratitude, launched a virtual flash mob in which they thanked everyone who extended a helping hand to them. In addition, parents of students who regularly communicate with the university administration and express their gratitude are also grateful for the measures to support their children.

Note, today 1170 students of the institute received food packages. Aid action will continue throughout the isolation regime.
