The co-organizers are the National Museum of Tatarstan, Kazan Federal University, and Kazan State Conservatory. The conference is dedicated to the memory of Yevgeny Busygin (1914 – 2008), a renowned Kazanian musician and ethnographer, alumnus of Kazan Music College and Kazan State University.

Among the topics raised at the conference were history of science, ethnographic education, historiography and document studies, ethnographic expeditions, ethnographic museum studies, folklore, ethnic holidays, traditions, customs, anthropology of academia, and other aspects of social life.

Much attention is being paid to the research heritage of two prominent ethnographers – Bruno Adler (1874 - 1942) and Nikolai Vorobyov (1894 - 1967). They both contributed to ethnic minority studies in Kazan Governorate and to the functioning of the Society of Archeology, History and Ethnography of Kazan University. They also laid foundations for monument studies, one of the important foci of attention for Kazan University nowadays.
