University's 215th anniversary continues with a student concert

The evening gala on 20th November was opened by Rector Ilshat Gafurov.

Before the performances started, Rector Gafurov addressed the audience, “From the depth of my heart, I want to congratulate us all with this memorable event – the 215th anniversary of Kazan University. Today, the University makes new history. Every year, hundreds of talented young specialists graduate from within our walls and continue to work for our science and our country. Today, we witness an unbelievably fast technological development, and it makes us to improve our education and science in line with the challenges of the 21st century. And here, Kazan University is among the best in implementing cutting-edge research and innovation projects. We can comfortably state that KFU is no longer just a classical university, but an advanced R&D center which serves the province, the country, and the global community. On this great day, I want to express my special gratitude to President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov; without his support our initiatives would not come to fruition. I want to also thank the members our Board of Trustees for support. I am thankful to our students for their eagerness to acquire new knowledge and for their achievements in various areas. Of course, there is no omitting our academics, directors and deputy directors of institutes, and our administrative staff. KFU would never have reached these heights without your support, your fruitful work, your love for students, science, and the alma mater.”

The gala itself, as usual, was scripted as a single storyline, mentioning many dignitaries who influenced the University, such as Alexander I, Nikolai Lobachevsky, Ivan Simonov, Leo Tolstoy, Osip Kovalevsky, Alexander Butlerov, and Vladimir Lenin.

Honorary guests were also given the chance to extend warm wishes. Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, a Kazan University alumnus, was one of them.

“I am always very glad to come to my alma mater, and I reminisce about my student years fondly. There is no need to list the many achievements of the University. It’s important that today the alumni’s names continue to bring glory to KFU. Much is done by Ilshat Rafkatovich and his team to develop the University. Rankings are important, but the more important thing is that you know how to study, how to develop, and how to rest. Kazan University is a part of our city and an inimitable facet of Kazan,” he said. After that, Mr. Metshin gave Dr. Gafurov a letter of appreciation and a symbolic gift – a model of the new Kazan Marriage Registration Center, popularly known as the Cauldron.

Everyone else who celebrated this day with KFU was united by one key thought – the most important thing for Kazan University is its people.
