In his speech today, Dr. Gafurov touched on key issues, such as teaching evaluation, educators’ social responsibility, government policies in education, and others.

Kazan Federal University is known to implement two models of teacher education, namely, classic and distributed. “Institutes organize high-quality training for future teachers in their respective subjects,” said Rector while speaking about the distributed model. “When pedagogy students study together with their specialization colleagues, they receive better instruction in their subjects.”

Another important question is pedagogical psychology – it is taught at the Center for Practical Competences of the Institute of Psychology and Education. Furthermore, students get to practice teaching under the guidance of experienced educators at KFU-administered secondary schools – the IT Lyceum and the Lobachevsky Lyceum. Research efforts are supported, among others, by the Kazan University’s Center of the Russian Academy of Education.

KFU is noted for offering integrative teaching courses – that is, freshmen and sophomores who enroll in non-teaching program can exercise their right to transfer to a pedagogy curriculum.

This year, 6 master programs with a significant online component are first introduced. Further down the road, the University plans to provide full online programs.

All in all, as Dr. Gafurov concluded, KFU has one of the most varied and comprehensive teacher training systems in the nation.

Later in the day, KFU’s positive experience was mentioned at a roundup discussion.

Today, Rector Gafurov and Vice-Rector Dmitry Tayursky also met with Head of Translational Genomics at KFU Oleg Gusev and discussed further KFU-RIKEN work with him.
