Conor Galvin: 'KFU is becoming the excellence center in the field of teacher education in Russia'

The 5th International Forum on Teacher Education will take place at Kazan Federal University from 29 to 31 May. The conference theme this year is ‘Development of teachers’ professional competencies: main problems and values’. The organizers of the forum participated in the press-conference ‘Tatar-inform’ where they spoke about the significance of the Forum, its geography and the Forum’s events.

Director of the Institute of psychology and education Aydar Kalimullin, vice-director of the Institute Roza Valeeva, and the president of the Irish Association of Educational Research Conor Galvin were the main speakers at the press-conference.

This year the Forum gathers more than 500 scholars from 73 foreign and 160 Russian universities and educational institutions. Researchers come from such countries as the USA, Sweden, Germany, Canada, China, Israel, Uganda and others.

Noteworthy that in 2018 KFU was ranked amongst 125 best universities in the world in the subject area Education according to the Times Higher Education rankings.

During the press-conference Professor Kalimullin voiced a number of problems that the system of teacher education faces today. The problems are related to the teacher shortage, the quality of teaching and other challenging issues. Professor Valeeva underlined that this year the Forum encompasses four subject conferences and the courses of continuing professional development. Professor Galvin participates in the Forum for the fourth time and emphasizes its importance, relevance, and scale. Conor Galvin admitted that he prefers learning rather than preaching when he attends IFTE in Kazan.

During the Forum KFU scholars together with their international colleagues will present the monograph ‘Knowledge, Policy and Practice in Teacher Education: a Cross-National Study’. Also, the president of the International Janusz Korczak Association Marek Michalak will award the best educators with the title of Smile.

Papers presented at the conference will be published in the European Proceedings of Social and Behavioral Sciences indexed by Scopus database.
