The teacher of the Department of contrastive linguistics John Leake (USA) gave an open interactive lecture «Closing the gaps of the USA» as part of the events in celebration of the day of Russian science.

John Leake presented the cultural and territorial features of the USA and told about his experience during the lecture. One of the main themes of the lecture was the theme of stereotypes which John Leak presented with the TedTalk video by the Nigerian writer. The writer was talking about the origin of the stereotypes and their influence on people’s lives when the information is represented only by one side. John Leak fairly mentioned that “the problem of stereotypes is not that they are not true, but that they are incomplete”.

The lecture by John Leake was attended by students and guests of the institute among which there were school students. The lecture went in friendly and comfortable atmosphere with active participation of the listeners.
