Virtual surgery system presented to President of Tatarstan at annual review meeting of Ministry of Health

Rector Ilshat Gafurov and University executives attended the event.

Before the main proceedings, President Rustam Minnikhanov was invited to try out the virtual reality simulator. Rector Gafurov commented, “We aim to develop and widen new technology. The next step is to use sensor gloves to make manipulations more precise. We can add haptic feedback to them, so that students can feel virtual tissues and be deeper absorbed in simulation.”

Autonomous training is a rare opportunity in surgery studies. Such programs utilize various means for this purpose, such as animals, cadavers, and computer simulation. In KFU’s case, the simulation project is spearheaded by SIM Lab, a joint venture of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology and the Higher School of IT and Intelligent Systems.

After the meeting, Minister of Health of Tatarstan Marat Sadykov presented an annual review of the state of this industry. Speaking about staff training, President Minnikhanov urged to pay attention to special educational programs, IT support, public-private partnerships in healthcare, and client satisfaction enhancements.
