EMI/EAP/ESP in the Context of Internationalization of Higher Education

On November 7-8, 2018, the 5th International Conference “English for Special and Academic Purposes and the English as the medium of instruction in the Context of Internationalization of Higher Education” was held at the National Research Technological University “MISIS”, Moscow (ESP / EAP / EMI in the Context of Higher Education Internationalization)”.

The anniversary conference was held as a part of the Times Higher Education Advanced Research Summit in collaboration with the University of Cambridge. Russian and foreign researchers discussed the issues relating to the cognitive mechanisms of teaching foreign languages, the problems of developing communicative competences in a constantly changing technological environment, and the possibilities of implementing innovative technologies in teaching English.

The conference participants paid special interest to the panel discussion “Academic Communication in the Development of Science”. It was attended by the leading experts in this field (University of Cambridge (UK), California State University (USA), Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden), etc.).

The sessions included a number of issues related to the preparation of scientific articles, theses and dissertation research, current problems the researchers are facing when communicating in an academic context, etc.

Representatives of the scientific school of Professor L. Salekhova (Batrova N.I., Grigorieva K.S., Yakaeva T.I.) participated in the conference, presenting the results of their scientific work, including possible effects of English as a medium of instruction (EMI) on developing executive functions of students, as well as the possibilities and experience of content (ICT) and language integration in training pre-service teachers.
