First ever North Korean delegation greeted in Kazan University

The four-person team includes a KFU alumnus.

The delegation represents Pyongyang's Institute of Natural Science, a university in the system of the National Academy of Science. The four academics who arrived to KFU are Vice-Rector Park Yoon-sam, Senior Research Associate Kim Ha, Lab Head Park Kwan-il, and Senior Lecturer Jeong Kil-un. The latter graduated from the KFU's Faculty of Biology in 1987.

Vice-Rector Linar Latypov held a brief presentation of Kazan University and outlined possible cooperation formats. Dr. Park Yoon-sam spoke about his university as well and expressed interest in joint research in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. He invited Kazanites to lecture at INS.

Mr. Jeong talked about his student years (1981 - 1987) and confessed, “When I entered the university building today, I almost didn't recognize it. I am very thankful for your warm welcome.”

The Institute of Natural Sciences is known as a concentrator of talents in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It mostly comprises students who have shown exceptional ability and have become successful in national school science contests. No one over the age of 17 is allowed to enroll.
