Visit by Ambassador of Poland Włodzimierz Marciniak

The Ambassador met with Rector Ilshat Gafurov, visited an open lesson of Polish language and toured key facilities.

Before the meeting, Ambassador Marciniak spoke with President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. The latter noted that there are many potential spheres of cooperation, including IT, automotive industry, agriculture, and medicine.

At the University, the guest first arrived to sit at an open Polish language class at the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication. The teacher was Magdalena Anna Akhmadeeva, a Polish national who has been a KFU employee since 2013. She is in charge of cooperation with the Polish Cultural Center in Moscow as well. After that, the delegation proceeded to the Gene and Cell Technology Lab, the Medical Simulation and Accreditation Center, and the Medical Engineering Center.

Rector Ilshat Gafurov later presented the University to Ambassador Marciniak. He spoke about international rankings and priority research areas. The visitor replied, “At your medical cluster, I could see that academics are willing to work with Poland but don’t receive any feedback. I am convinced that our side’s priority is to arrange ongoing contacts.”

In conclusion, everyone went to the Main Building's courtyard to lay flowers near the memorial plaque of Jan Baudouin de Courtenay. This famous Polish academic and polyglot made major contributions to the development of philology at Kazan University. He specialized in Slavic languages and created a theory of phonemes and phonetic alternations. One of the classrooms of Kazan University was also officially renamed in his honor yesterday.
