Carnegie Mellon Professor Mel Siegel visited Intelligent Robotic Systems Lab

Lab Head, Professor Yevgeny Magid, presented latest advancements.

Mel Siegel, whom Yevgeny Magid met during the latter’s work at Carnegie Mellon, is an expert in several areas, including sensors, measurement and control systems, and knowledge-based data interpretation and use. He has amassed experience in postgraduate recruiting in Russia, Kazakhstan, and China.

During the meeting, Dr. Magid showed the guest some of the Lab’s robots, including Servosila Engineer (disaster relief assistant), androids ROBOTIS-OP2 and ROBOTIS-OP3, industrial robot KR 3 AGILUS, autonomous drone PX4, DJI copter modifications, and more.

Professor Siegel shared his opinion of the Intelligent Robotics master program launched by the Institute of IT and Intelligent Systems in 2017, “I am pleasantly surprised that in a short timeframe – less than one and a half years - the Intelligent Robotics Systems team has achieved breakthrough results and opened this world-level master program in robotics.”

Professor Magid responded, “Last year, in our first enrolment, we had 30 candidates for 10 fee-based vacancies, and we recruited 11 people in the end. The executives noticed that successful start, and this year, we already have 10 fee-based and 5 budget-funded vacancies.”

The sides held a friendly discussion on robotics research and further development of postgraduate programs in this field.
