On January 26, 2018 there was held a term paper defense at the Department of Educational Technologies and Information Systems in Philology. Third-year students of Leo Tolstoy Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication defended their theses in the presence of the Board of four faculty members: R.A. Fahrutdinova, A.R. Abdrafikova, K.S. Grigorieva, Т.S. Pimenova.
In the fall semester of 2017, third-year students of Leo Tolstoy Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication were offered to write an academic essay. There was a lot of excitement on the students’ part because there is no single definition for this genre. STUDFILES, for example, offers the following definition: "An academic essay is a fusion of a scientific article and a literary essay."
What do our students think about their scientific research work?
Group 10.1-509: At the beginning, we were excited and confused a lot, for this was the very first term paper we had to write and defend. The Electronic Learning Resource "Scientific Research and Project Activities of Students" and recommendations of our advisors R.A. Fahrutdinova, A.R. Abdrafikova, K.S. Grigorieva, Т.S. Pimenova were very helpful.
Group 0.1-508: It was interesting but not very easy to make 15 appendices to our term paper, which reflected all the references we cited in our theses. It helped us to work with authentic materials and to introduce quotes. It was new and challenging. But we did it!
And what are students’ achievements? More than half of students got “A” and “B” grades. Congratulations!
