All-Russian scientific conference-competition of schoolchildren named after Leo Tolstoy: the section "Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Philology and Education"

A session of the section "Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Philology and Education" took place on November, 2 2017 at the Leo Tolstoy Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication. The following session was held under the All-Russian scientific conference-competition of schoolchildren named after Leo Tolstoy

17 participants took part in the work of the section, among them 8-11 grades schoolchildren of schools №№ 8, 39, 42 and gymnasiums №№6, 20, 125 of Vakhitovsky, Privolzhsky, Soviet and Kirov districts of Kazan, the city palace of children's creativity named after A. Alish of Kazan, school №6 (Nizhnekamsk Municipal District of the Republic of Tatarstan) and gymnasium №1 (Rybnaya Sloboda, the Republic of Tatarstan), 1st year students of the Kazan Energy College and 2nd year students of the Nizhnekamsk Branch of the Kazan University of Innovation.

14 works were presented during the section, the themes of which reflect modern trends and problems of using ICT in philology and education:

1) opportunities of ICT use for creating information products in various subject areas: creating book trailers of works of fiction using MS PowerPoint, Windows Movie Maker, Macromedia Flash Player Sony Vegas Pro 10, Windows Live Film Studio, etc .; the creation of a virtual tour “Gortalov country seat” of the Museum and Education Center of school №39 of Kazan using MS PowerPoint; development of the site "Ultraviolet radiation" using HTML with the ability to access the site from a mobile device using QR-code; an estimation of probability of reception of a positive estimation by guessing the correct answer using MS Excel.

2) usage of ICT for the formation of information competencies of students: QR-Quest that allows to obtain and test knowledge in the field of ICT; the possibilities of the Internet in learning English grammar; the use of ICT during English classes.

3) comparing the capabilities of various software for solving educational and daily tasks: the capabilities of the voice assistants (Siri, Google Assistant и Microsoft Cortana) for mobile phones running on different operating systems (Ios, Android, Windows Mobile); comparison of modern online translators (Google Translate, PROMT, Yandex translator), which are most popular among Internet users.

4) studying the possibilities of the mobile class in the educational process of the school and the influence of computers on the health of modern students.

The participants of the section showed an interest to the work of the conference and the reports of other participants, asked questions. The expert council noted the diversity of the presentations, good preparation of the students and the high level of the work of the supervisors. The results of the sectional meeting are: two participants were awarded with 1st degree diplomas, two participants - diplomas of the 2nd degree and three participants - diplomas of the 3d degree. Other participants were awarded with the certificates of the conference.

The conference participants gave their feedback on the work of the section "ICT in Philology and Education". They wrote that they received a lot of interesting information, the experience of presentation of the research work; also they noted the kindness and responsiveness of the expert council, freedom of speech, clarity in the organization of the conference, the competence of experts, information support via e-mail. Moreover they expressed the wish in future participation in conferences of such level.

Later there was received an e-mail from the member of the section Sverdrup Anthony (schoolchildren of school №39 of Kazan): "Thank you very much for the invitation, the opportunity to present a research work at the Kazan Federal University, the academic atmosphere and the experts high evaluation of work. I wish you high scientific achievements!!!"
