VI Leo Tolstoy Educational Festival took place in the Institute of Philology and Cross-Cultural Communication on October 23-27.

The festival was organized within the State program of the Republic of Tatarstan "Preservation, studying and development of state languages of the Republic of Tatarstan and other languages in the Republic of Tatarstan for 2014-2020".

The purposes of the Festival:

• distribution of the ideas of the great Russian writer and the former student of the Kazan University in the world community;
• the increase in the international prestige of the Republic of Tatarstan and strengthening the moral and spiritual bases of modern society in connection with Leo Tolstoy's ideas and his influence on the wotrld literature and culture.

The tasks of the Festival:

• to invelove school children and students into the academic researches and form the new generation of scholars who will be become the basis for the academic life of Russian and Tatarstan in the next 20-30 years;
• th development Art and Humanities as academic spheres, especially in conncetion with Leo Toltoy's heritage as a writer. And a philosopher and his influence on the world culture;
• to discuss current problems of Leo Tolstoy literary heritage, its significance and its' importance for the modern world on the basis of consolidation of interests in the sphere of literary criticism and Russian and world academic society;

• to elaborate cross-cultural and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding of Leo Tolstoy's personality, philosophy and fiction by literary critics, linguists, historians, culturologists, museum scholars, archivists and high school teachers.

 

The Festival has already become a traditional event of the Institute. The first Festival was held in December, 2014, and the present one is the forth. The geography of participants covered not only Kazan, Yasnaya Polyana and other Russian centers of studying of Leo Tolstoy;s life and creative work, but also the Universities of Rome and Warsaw.

 

 The 2017 Festival traditionally had different academic and cultural events including contests within several “platforms”.

The competition of translators took place with the the Platform of Translation. It gathered 89 school children and students who were to translate the fragment of Leo Tolstoy's work into different languages.

 The Creative Platform united two competitive actions for school children and students: the exhibition of pictorial and graphic works illustrating Leo Tolstoy's works, and the literary competition "My First Writing Experience" for the authors of small prose.

Within the work of the Book Platform school children and students met famous Russian writers Andrey Volos, Marina Moskvina, Sergey Sedov, and others.
