The UN is the largest, most familiar, most internationally represented and most powerful intergovernmental organization in the world tasked to promote international co-operation and to create and maintain international order. United Nations Day is devoted to making known to people of the world the aims and achievements of the United Nations Organization and is celebrated on October 24th. United Nations Day is part of United Nations Week, which runs from 20 to 26 October.

The event celebrated  at the Leo Tolstoy Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication and this year the students of the Institute prepared presentations about the history, structure and the importance of the United Nations Organization for the welfare of all the inhabitants of the planet Earth. The students not only made presentations and shared their ideas with each other, but also discussed the possible contributions each of us could make to the functioning of this great institution. «Only if we cooperate with other countries in an attempt to save the world, we can achieve something worthy», - that was the conclusion all the students finally came up to.
