MAY 26, 2017. A WEB CONFERENCE PRESENTATION FOR LEO TOLSTOY INSTITUTE OF PHILOLOGY AND INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION STUDENTS

On May 26, the Department of Educational Technology and Information Systems in Philology hosted the web conference “Have a Hoot with Kahoot!” for students of Leo Tolstoy Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication. The presenter was Dr. Pimenova from Purdue University (USA).

For the first time, students were given an opportunity to directly communicate with an American educator across the Atlantic Ocean. What new things did Russian students learn from Dr. Pimenova? They came to know, first of all, that Purdue University is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world. Students got acquainted with the unique and unknown to them technology Kahoot!, that is actively used in teaching foreign languages abroad. The following items were covered:

Part 1

o Background of Kahoot!

o Research on using Kahoot!

o Advantages of Kahoot! over clickers

o Using Kahoot! in a classroom

Part 2

o Create a Kahoot! account

o Search Public Kahoots

o Make a Kahoot! quiz/ survey/ discussion

In addition, students got their chance to ask questions about the methods of teaching foreign languages in the United States.

All participants of the web conference came to the conclusion that it would be useful to have such events on a regular basis.
