Collective security is a hot issue right now, and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is one of the international bodies paying much attention to it.

Two lectures for KFU students were given on November 28th and 29th by Albina Yakubova, Program Management Officer (Transnational Threats Department, Border Security and Management Unit, OSCE Secretariat). She spoke about counter-terrorism, thwarting organized crime and drug trade, facilitating diplomatic relations in conflict areas, and other relevant topics.

The students used this opportunity to voice their opinions about international issues and border control. Intra-national policing and security also appeared to be a point of interest. Ms. Yakubova even held trivia quizzes after the lectures and handed out prizes to the most attentive listeners. Moreover, she, as an ethnic Tatar, expressed special satisfaction with this visit to the land of her ancestors.

As Manager Yakubova stated, she met with President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in Vienna in May 2016. They talked about her professional path as a law expert. Now, as she hopes, this example can motivate young people of KFU.

She said, in particular, “OSCE is the biggest regional organization dealing with security issues. I want you to see it as a potential place of your further employment. During my student years, I couldn’t even imagine that one day I would work at the UN headquarters in Vienna or at the OSCE Secretariat. As you can see, nothing is impossible”. She recommended that students seek internships at international organizations while still studying.

Ms. Yakubova was invited to join KFU’s projects in migration, refugee adaptation, and international dialog.
