Kazan University Hosted the 2nd Convention of the Russian Society of Political Scientists

The event took place on November 11th – 13th

The forum's tagline was «Russian Politics: The Agenda in a Changing World». 350 academics from 30 countries attended, making Kazan the national center of political science for the weekend.

The guests were greeted by Rector Ilshat Gafurov and Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin. Mr. Mukhametshin spoke about his vision of political stability in Russia.

Next to present his thoughts was Vladimir Yakunin, former CEO of the Russian railway giant RZD and current Co-Chairman of the RSPS and Chair of the Department of Public Policy at Moscow State University. He touched upon such pertinent topics as consumerism, political stability, and globalization. He criticized the existing approach to regime change and “velvet” revolutions currently demonstrated by some countries and pointed to the problems created by such destabilizing policies.

The delegates then proceeded to the meeting at the Main Building of KFU to discuss procedural issues and elect new chairpersons and other personnel, and the sessions began after that.
