Have you ever thought about the level of your literacy? Nowadays, despite the increase in the quality of education, the number of literate people are still few. There are plenty of activities aimed at the elimination of illiteracy among young people. Such as, for example, total dictation, various international competitions, contests, etc.

It’s up to philologists to cope with illiteracy! Spelling competition «Spell Battle» for students is regularly held in Leo Tolstoy Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication. As it is known, the main aim of the competition is to spell words in three languages (English, Russian and Tatar).

A long-awaited opening of the new season took place on October, 20. There were not only the students of our institute but the students of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies, Institute of Social Philosophy and Mass Communications, and Kazan State Technological University as well. PhD associate professor of the Department of Language and Intercultural Communication at Gabdulla Tukai Department Tatar and Turkish Studies and longtime friend of the project Ashrapova Alsou Halilovna (Tatar), Senior Lecturer of the Department of Germanic  Philology of Russian and Foreign Philology Department  Safin Ildar Hamzouvich (English) and teacher-pedagogue responsible for educational activities of the department of Socio and Educational work at IFIC Kamalova Raisa Dzhavdatovna (Russian) were the members of the jury in the competition.

From the very beginning of the Battle the participants showed the desire to win. The spellers step by step were approaching to the final, it was evident that they had prepared for competition very well. As a result, the title of the most literate speller was won by 2nd year student of our Institute Zaydullina Dilara. Our congratulations!
