A New Book about the History of Tatar People was Published in Romania

Lately the II volume of the fundamental scientific work “Mostenirea istorica a Tatarilor” (Bucuresti, Editura Academieli Romane, 2012, 804 pages (50,25 sheets))”, published in Bucharest in the Romanian, English and Turkish languages by the publishing house of the Romanian Academy of Science within the series “Historical Heritage of the Tatar People: Tatars’ History, Culture and Civilization” and edited by Professor Tasin Zhamil and Doctor Nazhi Pinaru, was received by the National library of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The initiative on and arrangement of international scientific symposiums devoted to history of Tatars and Turkic peoples of Eurasia in Romania, as well as on publishing of works referred to the aforesaid series belongs to our compatriot, Professor Tasin Zhamil, who is well-known all over the world. He is a Romanian and Tatar historian and specialist in the history of Ottoman empire and Crimea, history and culture of Tatar Turkic people, former deputy of Romanian Parliament representing the Democratic union of Tatars and Turkic Moslems of Romania, former ambassador of Romania in Azerbaidzhan and Turkmenistan, current director of the Institute of Study of Turkic Languages and Central Asian Researches of the University of Babesh-Bolay in the city of Kluzh-Napoka. I got acquainted with the Professor in 2005 in Turkmenistan during the conference devoted to study of monuments of Kun-Urgench city (Northern Turkmenistan) and their inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Then Tasin Zhamil arrived in Kazan to participate in the congress of Tatar scientists, which was being held by the World Tatar Congress and the Tatarstan Academy of Science under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan. Namely at that time Professor Tasin Zhamil established broad scientific contacts with the Tatarstan Academy of Science and Tatar scientists. Recently the Professor from Romania introduced his compatriots at the V World Tatar Congress, which was held in December, 2012 in Kazan.

A book about the history of Tatars recently published in Romania was compiled on the basis of papers and works presented at the II International scientific symposium “Historical heritage of Tatars”, which was held in Romanian city of Constantsa from October 6 to October 10, 2010. The Russian Federation was represented at this symposium by the Professor of the Institute of History of Kazan Federal University, Mr. A. A. Burkhanov (Kazan), and V. Akhmetov (Ufa).

Articles of the main speakers at the aforementioned symposium have become a basic material for the II volume “Mostenirea istorica a Tatarilor” published in three languages.

The book consists of 8 sections, with 48 articles of famous Romanian and foreign scientists being included in them.

The section “Social and economic development of steppes in the Middle Ages” opens with the article by Tasin Zhamil, devoted to the history of Turkic and Tatar people residing in Romania as a part of Ottoman empire. The article by Albert Burkhanov (Kazan) is devoted to history, some results and prospects of studying historical and archeological monuments referred to the periods of the Golden Horde and Kazan Khanate in Tatarstan and the Volga region. The publication by the Turkish scientist, Mr. Khalil Chetin, presents materials about significance of steppe Turkic-Mongolian culture for the Ottoman empire development. The article by E. Nikoluy gives information about Moldavian lands as a part of the Golden Horde.

Publication of the Italian researcher, Mr. J. Kosutto, represents materials relating to the part played by Tatars in development of the Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region. Nazhi Pinaru has provided a material devoted to life and activity of Hajjah Girey-khan (1438-1466).

6 articles are included in the section devoted to problems of Turkic-Tatar philology.

Works of 6 more scientists tell about certain problems of Tatar diasporas and emigration.

A special section consisting of 7 articles is devoted to Tatars living in Romania.

A section of major significance is one devoted to the history of Turkic-and-Tatar dynasties, clans and elite as an important element of Tatars development.

A series of works is united in a section touching problems of source study and historiography of Turkic-and-Tatar people.

Articles included in the section connected with problems of geopolitics and geostrategy are significant, as well.

Several works are included in the section devoted to international relations and diplomacy of Turkic-and-Tatar states in the Middle Ages, previous century and nowadays.

The above mentioned scientific work represents an important contribution to Oriental studies, study of Turkic languages and history of Tatar people.
