New Era of Cooperation Between Russian and Iranian Universities

Rector Ilshat Gafurov became the part of the inaugural meeting of the Russian-Iranian Forum of Rectors.

The participants were greeted by Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Sanai, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Russia Aleksandr Klimov, and some others.

The invited rectors and vice-rectors presented their institutions and proposed new ways of collaboration.

Dr. Gafurov in his speech mentioned that Kazan University cooperates with five Iranian universities, the Saadi Fund and the National Institute of Biotechnologies and Genetic Engineering.

20 Iranian students and postgraduates are currently studying at KFU. There is a fruitful research project with in medicine and pharmacy with Tarbiat Modares University.

There is also the Center for Iranian Studies supported by the Consulate General of Iran in Kazan. The Center provides Farsi classes and organizes cultural events.

Several cooperation agreements were signed at the event, the main one being the Memorandum of understanding for the establishment of the Association of Institutions of Higher Education of Russia and Iran.
