Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets: 'We Are Two Steps Away from Our Goal'

Rector Ilshat Gafurov took part in a meeting of the rectors of leading Russian universities.

The meeting was helmed by Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets. Also attending was Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Livanov.

The meeting was dedicated to the preliminary results of Project 5-100. Vice-Premier Golodets mentioned that Russian universities have achieved significant progress in both special and general rankings. Among those showing especially impressive results she named Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnic University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Kazan Federal University, and Moscow Engineering Physics Institute. This makes them “two steps away” from the desired goal of entering the top 100 universities in the world, said she.

Rector of KFU Ilshat Gafurov shed some light on the specifics of the University's advancement in the most important rankings. Namely, KFU was 317th in the Industry Income category of this year’s THE Rankings. There was a 50 positions rise in the QS Rankings which immediately influenced the enrolment numbers, said Dr. Gafurov.

KFU's success in the THE Rankings was mostly thanks to its amazing spurt to the 85th position in Citations.
