Science and Technology in Society Forum Started in Kyoto

Rector Ilshat Gafurov proposes establishing medical training center in cooperation with Toshiba Medical Systems.

STS Forum 2015 opened its doors on October 4th at the Kyoto International Conference Center. The forum is a venue for informal discussions on global matters of science and technology. The annual gatherings are attended by the executives of top 100 industrial giants of the world, scientists, Nobel laureates, managers of relevant government agencies and private funds.

Rector Ilshat Gafurov is a member of the Tatarstani delegation headed by President Rustam Minnikhanov. Dr. Gafurov’s offer was the first significant result of the delegation’s negotiations in Japan. It was made during a meeting with Toshiba’s Representative Executive Officer Muromachi Masashi. In his response Mr. Muromachi expressed interest in cooperating with Tatarstan in the fields of software engineering and equipment upgrades. Toshiba has the necessary experience after having created similar educational centers in Japan and other countries.

This constructive cooperation is possible thanks to previously laid foundation, for instance, by the joint projects of KFU and RIKEN. The two sides plan to open an IT clinic at KFU, a medical simulation center at Juntendo University and a genetics lab headed by Dr. Yoshihide Hayashizaki.
