Congress on Islamic Archaeology Forthcoming at Kazan University

Rector Ilshat Gafurov sat down with Director General of IRCICA Halit Eren on September 10th.

The two executives discussed some details of the future events hosted by KFU, especially the Congress on Islamic Archaeology.

The Congress is one of the biggest historical and art forums held in the Turkic-speaking world. This time archaeology will be the main focus. Revival Foundation, chaired by First President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, is the organization currently engaged in restoring the historical sites in Bolgar and Sviyazhsk. One of the panels of the Congress might be hosted in either of the mentioned towns.

Director of Institute of IRHOS Ramil Khayrutdinov explains, «This will be the third congress. The two previous ones were held by Turkey and Pakistan. This time the choice was Russia because archaeologists are traditionally very interested in the heritage of the Golden Horde and Volga Bulgaria». Dr. Khayrutdinov added that the specific dates were set – the Congress will take place on June 17th and 18th, 2016, at KFU. The main focus will be the preservation of cultural heritage of the Islamic world – the issue that has been disturbingly put forth by the recent events in the Middle East.

Note

Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture was established in 1980 to promote Islamic science and strengthen the ties between Muslim countries. IRCICA is the subsidiary of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
