Singing Russian Songs Helps Foreign Students Learn Russian

Each of the students has his/her own rationale for attending the classes.

Dean of the Preparatory School for International Students Rais Safin elaborates, ‘The summer school’s timeframe is August 3rd to 28th. International Office is in charge of recruitment and organization. The summer language school contains not only Russian language training, there are also history and culture studies, trips around Kazan, to Sviyazhsk and Lenino-Kokushkino’.

Russian singing course is also a part of the school – it’s not only helpful in culture studies, but obviously is of much use for vocabulary and pronunciation training.

History of the summer language school dates as far back as 1970s. It was always fee-based, but the story has been different since last year.

Rossotrudnichestvo provides scholarships, so now there are students who can study free of charge’, explains Mr. Safin. ‘This is definitely an acknowledgement of our efforts, now we even have teachers of Russian from Germany and France, so the requirements to our educators’ qualifications are high’.

23 students from Germany, Turkey, South Korea, Switzerland, Hungary, Algeria, Morocco, and Spain are divided into 3 groups based on their Russian proficiency. Some of them are quite advanced and want to continue studying Russian in Kazan University.

German student Victoria says, 'I like Kazan very much. The city is beautiful, the people are helpful and open. I especially like Russian singing classes. And, of course, the language classes are very intensive, we learn a lot'.

Amer from Turkey shares his impressions, 'Out of all the trips I liked the one to Lenino-Kokushkino the most. I also liked the library where we saw some very old books'.

All the students will receive certificates upon completion of the summer course,
