Kazan University Prepares to Join British Educational Research Association

Mr. Galvin’s primary objective when visiting was to become acquainted with the teacher training system at Kazan Federal University being presented in two models: traditional and distributional. The former is based on training the specialists in education under the premises of one campus, which is the Elabuga Institute of KFU, whereas the latter includes pedagogical divisions within every department of Kazan University. It is worth noting, that such an extensive approach measures up to global education standards.

“Having here Conor Galvin and many other foreign colleagues here, who took part in the International Forum on Teacher Training Modernization at our university in the beginning of June, once again shows that our efforts correspond with best practice” shared Airat Kalimullin, Director of the Institute of Psychology and Education. “Today we are actively building up cooperation with international organizations in education. At this time we are negotiating KFU’s admission within the British Educational Research Association”

The modernization process of teacher education in Kazan University is occurring both in practical and research aspects. The emphasis is laid on KFU’s integration in global research projects. At the moment Kazan specialists are trying to identify the problems which could be interesting for foreign audiences and match them with their current investigations. Amongst these is unequal access to education, child migrant education, deviant behavior, ethnical education e t.c. Thus, Rosa Valleeva, Head of the Division for General and Social Education, has become Russia’s leading expert representing British Journal of Educational Technology and a member of several international projects.

During his stay on August 12-13, Coner Galvin also shared information about teacher training organization in Ireland. Every higher education institution has its own education process and especially its practical application. For example, starting from their first year undergraduates spend the first half of their day on campus and the second half in schools. This is where KFU scientists are planning to concentrate.
