KFU Establishes Partnerships with Universities of Cuba

KFU participated in the meeting of the Russian-Cuban Commission for Cooperation in Education and Science, which was held on New Year’s Eve in Havana.

The following questions were discussed during the meeting: quotas and exchange of students; Cuban and Russian students undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate teaching. The question of joint scientific and technical cooperation in the fields of nanotechnology and biomedicine was discussed by the parties as well. Development of the Language Centers (Russian in Cuba and Spanish in Russia) was also an important topic of discussion.

XII Cuba-Russia Intergovernmental commission meeting on mutual cooperation, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin from the Russian side, took place later. The floor was given to the heads of commissions that have achieved success in the negotiations, namely those are Transport Commission, Health Commission and Education Commission. Later on, in a solemn atmosphere, Dmitry Rogozin and Russian Ambassador to Cuba Mikhail Kamynin signed a number of agreements, including Agreement on cooperation in education, science and technology.

During the visit Russian delegation has visited Cuban Higher Institute of Technology and Applied Sciences (INSTEC) and the University of Havana.

“A meeting with the vice-rectors was organized in the University of Information Technologies, - said Petr Kokunin, a senior lecturer of Department of autonomous robotic systems, Higher School of Information Technologies and Information Systems. – Cuban colleges made a presentation about the University, and gave a detailed des­cription on the structure and main activities. KFU representatives made a presentation on the main activities of the Higher School of Information technologies and Information Systems, about major current and future projects. We have tried to figure out points of contacts and fields of mutual interest during our discussions. Projects on 3D maps development and training the Cuban students in the field of Information Security have aroused a great interest.”

KFU representatives made a presentation about scientific and educational capabilities of the Kazan University in the INSTEC. In particular, the Institute of Physics was covered in presentation. Prospects of joint research activities were discussed by the Parties as well. Projects related to the development of nuclear medicine have aroused interest from Cuban side, while the University of Havana have become interested in research conducted in KFU in the fields of biomaterial science, pharmaceutics, theoretical physics, and Information Technologies.
