International Programming Contest – New Opportunities for Russia

Even a year ago no one could imagine the possibility of holding the International Olympiad in Informatics in Russia. Today it is reality.

The idea of IOI to be held in Kazan came after a visit to Italy in 2013. The experience of the Students’ Games proved: Kazan can provide the necessary infrastructure for the project.

The Advisor to the Rector of Kazan Federal University Lyudmila Nugumanova tells about the plans and scale of the event: "We have qualified for the International Olympiad in Informatics among school students on the basis of Kazan Federal University. With the support of the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia we have prepared all the documents. The path was not easy, and it is only the beginning. IOI is known in the IT industry. It is no secret that many winners of this prestigious contest later become the main driving force for companies. Therefore, the attention of software companies is understandable.

80 countries participate in the Olympiad; each team includes four participants. The only exception is for the host country. Russia in 2015 will have the opportunity to present two teams. The best minds in age from 16 to 18 years will gather in Kazan”.

Lyudmila Nugumanova hopes that the students of KFU IT-Lyceum will be able to win the national competition in order to become the representatives of the Russian team.

IOI provides an opportunity to achieve three goals:

-     to prove that IT lyceum students are capable to compete with the best school students- programmers from 80 countries;

-     to show that KFU is a world-class university;

-     to present Russia as the country of high achievements.

The Council of Rectors declared the competition on the best logo of IOI-2016 to be open. The winner will receive the set of gifts and will be invited to IOI as a guest.
