210 years of history: KFU celebrates its anniversary

December 6 ? University students and staff enjoyed the grand concert dedicated to the 210th anniversary of Kazan University.

The event was no less colorful than the 22nd Winter Olympics opening ceremony. In 3 hours spectators could get an insight into the two-century history of Kazan University. They could witness how Alexander I signed the Charter of Kazan Emperor University, students meeting on  December 4th, 1887 and the Bolsheviks coming to power, the tragic period of the Great Patriotic War, the call for changes in 80-90th and the nowadays events at the University with a newly assigned federal status.

The performance bands were the major attraction of the show. They animated the historical moments and represented the multinational University. The potpourri of national dances was stunning.

Dina Garipova, one of the best young singers in Russia, came with a closing song. Edward Treskin, a renowned opera singer, gave a brilliant performance of the student anthem ?Gaudeamus?.

The biggest KVN?s league of KFU appeared on the stage with a humorous gig.

Many distinguished guests visited the anniversary: President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Alexandr Klimov, Minister of Communications and Mass Media of Russia Nikolai Nikiforov, Head of the Presidential Domestic Policy Directorate Oleg Morozov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Ildar Khalikov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, State Duma Deputy of the Russian Federation Vasily Lihachev, State Duma Deputy of the Russian Federation Ildar Gilmutdinov, President of Kazan Scientific Center of RAS Oleg Sinyashin.

Rector of Kazan Federal University Ilshat Gafurov surprised everyone at the end of the concert with his bike-riding skills. On behalf of the bikers group, he congratulated the university community.
