President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov learned about Kazan University's distance education capabilities
A visit was arranged today to the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communications.
Since 19th March, KFU, along with the majority of Russian universities, shifted to distance learning. “Currently, there are 12,383 courses in 561 curricula on our electronic educational platform, which is 88% of the total,” said Rector Ilshat Gafurov to the President.
1,736 disciplines are not available online because they involve on-site manipulations with equipment. The same, of course, goes for physical education and sports. All those classes will be moved to the post-quarantine period.
All 45 thousand students shifted to online learning, informed Dr. Gafurov. All students and educators are registered in the Electronic University system. “There are over 400 rooms with multimedia equipment for our teachers. Kazan Federal University is prepared for this new work format. We’ve been moving to digital for the last one and a half years,” added the Rector.
During his tour, President Minnikhanov witnessed lessons in 3D MAX and Tatar language. He also visited the EduTech Center (Center for Digital Education Technology), where he could see the workflow in Microsoft Teams and UchiRU (an educational platform for some of the Republic of Tatarstan’s districts).
The President conversed with teachers and students and offered to think about using the existing platforms for secondary education.
Rector Gafurov reiterated that the University is totally ready to organize the educational process online.
