President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov partook in the proceedings.
Before the ceremony, Tatarstan Regional Branch of the Association of Russian Lawyers held its convention and elected a new chairman – Ildar Khalikov, Director General of Tatenergo.
President Minnikhanov noted that the Tatarstan Association of Lawyers, which currently unites 568 professionals, is engaged in important social work. Over 23 thousand Tatarstanis have received pro bono help since 2007. Since 2011, the Association also provides consultations at mobile stations across the region in rural areas. The President also gave away Tatarstan state awards in law.
Lawyer of the Year in Tatarstan Award was established by the Tatarstan Association of Lawyers in 2014. It is presented in five nominations: Legal Education, Justice, Longtime Excellence in Legal Profession, Pro Bono Help, and Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms. This year, four out of five winners happened to be alumni of Kazan University.
Gabriel Shershenevich Prize is a Russian national award established in 2016 in honor of the famous Russian lawyer, legal scientist, and parliamentarian of the Russian Empire. Three persons were awarded today, including Ildar Khalikov.
