Medical Quest, the second emergency medicine contest, was held at KFU on 15th – 17th November.
Kazan Federal University and Izhevsk State Medical Academy emerged as winners among specialized medical institutions. Udmurt State University was the best among non-medical ones.
Emercom of Tatarstan was an active co-organizer of this year's event. In the Institute of Fundamental Medicine's courtyard, the ministry showcased its emergency rescue technology – SHERP and TRECOL off-road vehicles, an emergency car, a fire extinguisher tank, and a field kitchen facility.
KFU's Medical Simulation Center served as the contest venue, with full fire disaster simulation in one of the corners. According to the proposed scenario, the center was a bunker where some people survived during a grave apocalyptic event. They sent a help signal to the emergency services, and the teams had to reach them inside the bunker, starting with searching for a key pass on one the “bodies” outside of the facility. Sound effects, decorations, and actors provided full immersion for the participants.
The teams had to implement first aid measures within a short timeframe and with no right to mistake. The tests included tracheal intubation, cardiac arrest, child delivery, and resuscitation of a newborn. Apart from the emergency aid itself, the contestants also had to provide psychological help to disaster victims.
27 squads from across Russia joined this unique competition in 2018.
