The Department of German Philology of the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication continues to integrate the traditions of the German language and literature division of the Imperial University of Kazan and Tatar State University of Humanity and Education in teaching German language and literature. The department combines scientific and pedagogical potential of major schools of philology: the historical linguistics school at KSU, the national school of literary criticism, comparative philology schools and schools of teachers' training in the field of language and literature.
The Department of German Philology conducts research in the fields related to the development of Kazan linguistic school ideas: Kazan school of word formation; study and description of historical morphology; Kazan Methodology School; the comparative and typological study of languages: synchronic and diachronic aspects, the methods of the German language teaching in the conditions of bilingualism and multilingualism.
Students can participate in academic mobility programs and spend a semester abroad. The German center DAAD also provides scholarships for Master's degrees in Germany. Besides, native speaker teachers from the United States and Germany teach at our Department. The Department works in academic collaboration with such research centers as Lancaster University, University of Giessen, TU Dresden and others.
