Adel Kutuy. Unsent Letters: Stories, a Poem in Prose published in 2013 by Tatar Book Publishing House is another volume in the series “World of Tatar Literature”. Aimed to familiarize Russian-speaking readers with Tatar Literature Classics the series consists of four books and focuses on creative work of A.Gilyazov, T.Minnullin, H.Vakhit, A.Kutuy.
The reviewed book contains Adel Kutuy’s career review, research of some of his works, questions and tasks for students’ self-studies, self-reflection questions and a list of references. The book is compiled with the idea to show A.Kutuy’s creative work in a broad historical-literary and cultural context of the 1920-1940s represented by memoirs and letters of well-known personalities of Tatar literature and culture. The author weaves statements of Tatar literary critics (G.Halit, H.Gosman, T.Galiullin, F.Galimullin) into the text of the book thus creating a vivid literary portrait of the writer. The conceptual basis of M.Khabutdinova’s analytical articles is the idea of the ethnic framework of A.Kutuy’s creativity, which is manifested as a mutual complementarity of tradition and innovation in the dialogue with Russian literature. This being one of the aims of the series: to provide a reader with the view to see Tatar literature through its ethnic identity open for literary dialogues.
