This article is devoted to the description of the scientific heritage of the outstanding scientist, and one of the remarkable representatives of the linguistic school of Kazan University, Enver Makhmudovich Akhunzyanov (1914 – 1986). His works are analyzed from the viewpoint of the modern history of linguistic ideas and the development of Tatar linguistics. The work proves that Akhunzyanov’s research is important for Tatar lexicology and lexicography, Tatar sociolinguistics and the comparative study of the morphological structures of the Russian and Tatar languages. Many of his ideas in the field of language contact, and the comparative, typological and contrastive studies of languages of different types underlie the modern paradigm of Tatar linguistic knowledge.
