KFU primary partners in Finland are the University of Helsinki, the University of Turku and CIMO – an independent agency under the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture promoting international mobility and cooperation.

Interaction with the University of Helsinki is developing within the Cooperation Agreement signed in 2007 and prolonged recently in 2012. Starting from 2008/2009 academic year students from partner universities participate in equivalent student exchange program. The program is one of the most popular among KFU students – each year more than 10 competitors seek to take one of two vacancies to go to Finland for a semester. The exchange is open for all majors. Besides, the scientific interaction is active in the areas like journalism and sociology, geography, municipal administration and others.

Cooperation with the University of Turku began in 2008 thanks to participation of KFU in Triple I academic mobility project (“Integration, Interaction and Institutions”), financed within Erasmus Mundus Action 2 program. Triple I is one of three Erasmus Mundus projects in Russia, and the coordinator is the University of Turku. The consortium consists of 10 European and 10 Russian institutions. Within the project 7 KFU staff members had trainings and internships in UTU in the fields like biochemistry, IT and philology. For instance, one of the graduate students of the Dpt. of Tatar Philology and History while having training at UTU Dpt. of Finno-Ugric languages took part in composing an e-glossary of Tatar words. This mobility program enabled contacts with professors of that department, who, in their turn, visited Kazan for a symposium “Volga region language contacts”

Long-term scientific cooperation exists between colleagues from Russian and Finnish universities in physics, IT and linguistics. Under the guidance of Prof. Dmitry Tayursky KFU researchers collaborate with UTU Centre of Quantum Physics, and prof. Farid Ablaev supervises interaction of KFU Dpt. of Theoretical Cybernetics with UTU Dpt. of Mathematics in the area of discrete mathematics.

KFU scholars also have partnership relations with the colleagues from the University of Oulu and the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio.
